When Louise Kretzschmar, Systematic Theology and Ethics Professor at UNISA, conducted an ethics class in South Africa she partnered with an environmental organization for funding and took a group of about 15 African students to a nature reserve. It was their first experience of their own country’s wilderness, and the encounter was very impressive. Dealing with fear of wild animals, discovering their own roots as a ‘people of nature’, studying environmental issues and African mythology, all this made for a very holistic experience.
